Hello mistar spam bot!
I got a nice comment from "car insurance quotes" here the other day. Apparently he enjoyed my post on
LaTeX in WP so much that he decided to post a comment.

Thanks for the comment "car insurance quotes", I couldn't agree more!
Two down, two to go!
Well, as the title says, I'm now done with two of my exams for this term. Today I had physics which went well. I was done in about two hours (maximum time is four hours).
Next up is Linear Algebra with Differential Equations!
LaTeX in WP
I finally got LaTeX in WP! Now I can write [ tex ] [ / tex ] and voilá! I'm now using a external site for rendering my equations, but as soon as I get the code running on my own server I will of course use my own.
To get this working I had to write a little plugin for WP, which was easier than I thought. Here is the code I'm using:
Plugin Name: LaTeX
Version: 0.1
Author: Ole
*/
function addLatex($text)
{
$text = preg_replace("/\[tex\](.+)\[\/tex\]/",'<img src="http://www.codecogs.com/eq.latex?\\1" alt="" />',$text);
return $text;
}
add_filter('the_content','addLatex');
WP need the comment to get data about the plugin and you simply use the add_filter() to apply your own function on given data. Here I'm using addLatex() on the content.
Here is how it works:
[ tex ] V_{ind} = -\frac{d}{dt}{\int_A{\vec B d\vec A } = -\frac{d\Phi_B}{dt} = -\frac{d}{dt}\left( \int_{a+vt}^{a+b+vt}{ \frac{\mu_oI}{2\pi x} cdx \right) = ... = -\frac{\mu_0 Ic}{2\pi}\left( \frac{v}{a+b+vt} - \frac{v}{a+vt} \right) [ / tex ]
Gives:
You gotta love LaTeX, and you gotta love physics. This equation is actually the solution to a problem on an old exam.
Online lectures
Ever had a crappy professor, missed out on a lecture or just wanted to recapture one? Well, MIT got an ingenious website which they call "MIT Open Course Ware". Here you can find lecture notes, audio from lectures and best of all video lectures! I'm taking physics this term, and I must say that Walter Lewin is my hero. His energy and passion really encourages you to see the beauty of physics. He teaches the courses 801, 802 and 803 at MIT. The video lectures in Linear Algebra and Differential Equations are also OK to watch.
If you're a mac or windows user you can find these lectures, and many more, on iTunes U. There you will find lectures and audio from tons of other universities in the USA as well.
123-meming with Mats
So I'm over at Mats' blog reading about "123-meming with Christer". You're probably asking; "What the hell is 123-meming?". The every same question did I ask myself while reading his post. It turns out that 123-meming is the following:
- Pick up the book closest to you
- Open page 123
- Find the 5th sentence…
- …and publish the next three sentences
- Link to 5 other bloggers and tell who linked you
So here we go! The book closest to me was "Elementary Linear Algebra" by C. H. Edwards, Jr. and David E. Penny (why is this the book closest to me, shouldn't I be reading physics?). The chapter is named "Vectors in the Plane and in Space". Here are the three sentences:
Thus every vector is a linear combination of the two vectors i and j. Such linear combinations of vectors may be manipulated exactly like combinations of real numbers. For instance, if
a = a1i+a2j and b = b1i +b2j
then
a + b = (a1i+a2j) + (b1i +b2j)
= (a1 + a2)i + (b1 + b2)jand
ca = c(a1i+a2j)
= (ca1)i + (ca2)j.
Thank you, Mats, for handing the meme over to me! It just took about 15 minutes to write the damn equations in wordpress!
Since the only other person in my blogroll is Øyvind i leave it up to him to carry this meme on!
Again, thank you Mats!
Exams
The exam period is here again. The current status is 1/4. The first exam in electronic circuits and digital design seemed easy after doing tons of old exams, but no. This time they really stepped up a notch, and made one hell of an exam. In other words I'm getting a crappy grade! :(
The next exam up is physics, which I hope will go much better. Lets just hope the professor aren't ready for change! With change I mean like anti gravity change (read: exam in digital design)!
Exams left after the physics exam is linear algebra with differential equations and object oriented programming (Java).
